The word that comes to mind for this Mercury Rx in Gemini is swashbuckling. Yea. Feel into that. I’ll use it in a sentence: Mercury is about to embark on a swashbuckling journey from its current location at 24 degrees of Gemini back to 16 degrees, through an exact conjunction to Venus and an opposition to Juno, the asteroid of marriage, all while being squared by mighty and mystifying Neptune. Over the next 24 days, we will be asked to endure the sometimes frustrating experience of watching what we thought we knew, had planned, wanted to do, etc. be turned upside down and inside out. The days and weeks following will be a time of understanding, acceptance, and integration of the course corrections we have received.
Sounds like an epic adventure, right? An Odyssey even. Retrogrades get a bad rap. Yes, there are going to be moments that try our patience and challenge our egos, but if we are open to the ushering of the benevolent, omnipotent hand guiding us, it won’t feel so abrupt. Retrogrades are opportunities to see beyond our own individual wills to what may be more beneficial for the whole. With Mercury in Gemini, this directly has to do with how we learn, process information, communicate, the technology that we use, business deals we make, exchanges of all kinds, magic, divination, writing, travel, and our general intellectual aptitudes.
We’ve got all of this in combination with Venus (Goddess of love, relationships, beauty, art, pleasure, the physical body, senses, money, values, the sacred feminine) in Gemini, Juno (Goddess of marriage, relationships, equality, balance, and compromise) in Sagittarius, and Neptune (God of the deep collective unconscious, hero worship, fantasy, illusion, dream life, the search for redemption, and the image of the divine) in Pisces, a portion of which is tucked neatly inside eclipse season. Here are some key points:
- Romance is definitely a theme right now. We are looking at our partnerships with fresh eyes, comparing our past-based perceptions to the current landscape and reformulating what this whole thing could look like. We have the ability to see it from more than just one side right now. The next few weeks will give us more information on how to proceed, but only by peeling back and unraveling what we think we know first.
- There is a balancing act going on. On one side we’re looking at personal values, relationships, and our ability to process them logically. On the other, our old beliefs around what is fair and what is not, which are being yanked away from us by the vacuum that is this eclipse season. The pivot between them is a tendency toward grand idealizations and the desire to find a savior outside of ourselves in one or the other. Stability and grounding can only be found when we are prioritizing the needs of our human bodies. This is all mutable (changeable/variable) energy and can make us feel like we are just consciousnesses floating around without any sort of physical tether a la Kurt Vonnegut’s “Unready to Wear”. This is not necessarily the time to make moves, but it is time to prepare our meat suits for that moment because it will come.
- This retrograde is playing all of our greatest hits from May 14, 2021 to now, so get ready to hear what you and everyone around you said and thought all over again, played backwards so you can hear the satanic/angelic messages. Your Gemini exes will come out of the woodwork… hopefully the ones you like.
- When something goes “wrong”, feel your feelings, grieve it, but don’t get caught up in that spiral because there is most likely something better that you haven’t even thought of coming to take its place.
As always, this transit means something different for each of us depending on what houses it affects in our individual charts. There is so much to it, y’all. If you are feeling out of sorts and in need of clarification, I would be honored to sit with you for a reading (sarahann.landau@gmail.com to book). Happy trails.
