Mid Moon News: August 16-20

Venus in Libra (August 16-September 10): Venus’s strength and power are greatly improved by moving out of her detriment in Virgo and into Libra, one of the signs she rules. Relationships, be they romantic or platonic, get a lift, as does self worth/value, and things related to women. We’ll be flying with a little more beauty, harmony, love, and sensuality under our wings for the next few weeks. You can find a full treatment on the goddess’ voyage through her Libran temple in my Venus in Libra post.

Mercury conjunct Mars in Leo (August 16-21): Get ready for some VERY direct communication over the next few days as Mercury and Mars join up in Virgo. I talked a bit about this dynamic in my Mars in Virgo post, so be sure to take a peek at that, but it feels like this conversation is focused largely on the theme of sovereignty. What is sovereignty? Sovereignty is the ability to govern oneself. This is about standing in our power, speaking our truth, and staying true to our core values. Mars, the god of swords, is always ready to fight and in Virgo that crusade is focused, organized, and efficient. Mercury, god of words and ruler of Virgo, is poised to express exactly how and why certain things must be cut away and will be with the utmost precision. We are learning how to maintain our integrity as whole, embodied beings. (You can find more details of the messenger god’s travels through their Virgoan temple in my Mercury in Virgo post.) An additional layer of this dynamic is added by Uranus, who has been digging up all sorts of surprises that challenge us to move in new directions, and will be forming a trine to both Mars and Mercury this week. With this sort of lineup there is great potential for new, outside the box solutions that seem to spontaneously appear. We may experience some underlying jitteriness during this period. Small-scale explosions or implosions are likely, for better or worse, so please remember to handle with care. Contents under pressure.

Sun in Leo opposite Jupiter Rx in Aquarius (August 17-22): As the Sun moves through the last degrees of its hot, summer kingdom and Jupiter retraces the steps it made through the end of Aquarius this past spring, they meet as a mirror, to reflect on a few things. The Sun has a tendency to illuminate anything it comes in contact with. In the sign of the Lion, its own dominion, this is happening through the lens of creative urges that get channeled through the physical from the higher self. This transit has some elements of the first Full Moon in Aquarius that we had at the end of July but it is asking us to look back at the period of time demarcated by Jupiter’s current retrograde, March 26-May 13ish. Here are some themes that we may be reconsidering or reflecting upon:

  • The desire to meet with new groups of people and experience new things, socialising, travel
  • Where we have found joy, excitement, optimism
  • Tendencies toward ego inflation and self importance
  • Solar figures, such as fathers, heroes, kings, presidents, casting light on issues that may have developed during the aforementioned period
  • Issues around fathers and fatherhood coming to light and resolution
  • Times we have felt dissatisfied and restless within our social settings and why

We’ll be talking a lot more about this with Aquarius Full Moon #2 at the end of this week, as it will be very much up in the mix.

Uranus Rx in Taurus (August 20-January 17, 2022): On the 18th, Uranus in Taurus will come to rest in stillness before beginning its retrograde journey through mid-Taurus. Since it moves so slowly, the planet of marvels, jolts, and wonders is only retracing a few degrees, but the time period we are reflecting upon with this movement is the end of April up until now. We’ve talked a lot about Uranus in Taurus since it is one of the major stars of 2021, so I won’t get too wordy about it here. With such a slow moving planet, the important thing is really in which house of your chart the retrograde takes place. More info on that below.

Venus in Libra trine Saturn Rx in Aquarius (August 20-25): The queen of all things lovely and the lord of karma are opening up a conversation that you really want to be present for. This is such a rich transit. Trines are harmonious contacts between two planets. Venus is a benefic planet, which means that she brings the good vibes with her wherever she goes. She also happens to be in Libra, her own temple, where she has all the things she could ever want or need to be her best self. As far as planetary interactions go, she’s is in the dominant position. She’s got the upper hand. Saturn is not in bad form in the sign of Aquarius either, though. Along with Capricorn, this is a sign that it rules. The fact that it is retrograde can actually be a beneficial thing since Saturn is the greater malefic, meaning that it generally brings challenges with it wherever it goes. With a malefic planet, the retrograde reversals we are all so familiar with can actually work much more favorably than anticipated. What I’m getting at here is that I love this transit and I am so excited for it. Why? Because it is about refining our wants and desires, discerning what is truly most valuable to us, and our responsibilities and obligations being infused with love and beauty. Saturn retrograde is showing us around the structures we’ve been hard at work building for the well-being of the collective so that we can see where there may be missing bricks or cracks in the cement that will need to be reworked. Venus in Libra, being in the stronger position, is reminding us that all things can be approached with sweetness, care, and decency. We have to be nice to ourselves even if we have made mistakes. The best way, actually, is to use love as the material from which we build our structures, to use love as the blueprint for what that structure is supposed to look like. These are some themes that can come through with this transit:

  • Building enduring relationships that will stand the test of time
  • Beauty that is functional or simple, but enchanting all the more because of it
  • Awareness of and true appreciation for other people’s efforts and time
  • Fondly recounting or looking with compassion upon challenging times pastsed
  • Mending of emotional wounds and healing of broken hearts
  • Finding stability in something or someone that appeals to one’s desires and values

These are overarching themes. If you know what your rising sign is, you can easily figure out what houses the planets are moving through in your chart and what relevance that has. Here is some information on how to determine house placements and what they mean: House Placements and Meanings.
