Aquarius Full Moon II

The Sabian Symbols are images relating to each degree of the zodiac which were channeled by the psychic Elsie Wheeler, and interpreted by astrologer Marc Edmund Jones in the 1950s. It’s said that these transmissions came directly from the spiritual brotherhood of ancient Mesopotamia that first discovered astrology. I don’t often use the Sabian Symbols in my practice, but the art and– dare I say– science of reading the celestial bodies in order to serve mankind seems a deeply Aquarian kind of pursuit, so here we go. At 8:01 am eastern on August 22, the Moon in Aquarius opposes the Sun in Leo at 29 degrees and 36 minutes. The 29th is the very last degree of a zodiacal sign, so we will read the very last “phase” of the channeled messages for Aquarius:

“PHASE 330 (AQUARIUS 30°): DEEPLY BOOTED IN THE PAST OF A VERY ANCIENT CULTURE, A SPIRITUAL BROTHERHOOD IN WHICH MANY INDIVIDUAL MINDS ARE MERGED INTO THE GLOWING LIGHT OF A UNANIMOUS CONSCIOUSNESS IS REVEALED TO ONE WHO HAS EMERGED SUCCESSFULLY FROM HIS METAMORPHOSIS.

KEYNOTE: The ability for the person with an open mind and a deep feeling for self-transcendence to come in contact with higher forms of existence.

This is the last and culminating symbol of Scene Twenty-two of the cyclic ritual. This is indeed a fitting symbol, as the number 22 symbolizes all forms of mastery. At any level, it is a symbol of spiritual group fulfillment — of CONSCIOUS TOTALITY OF BEING.” (straightwoo.com)

I would like to point out the reference to metamorphosis in this excerpt as well as the reference to culminating light frequencies in the notes for this phase that I have not quoted… and that I made the collage for this moon before I had consciously tuned in. It felt like rainbows and butterflies and it is rainbows and butterflies. Even the Sabian Symbol says so.

Each year we get one or two blue moons (two consecutive moons in the same sign). The first of the pair comes at the first degree of the sign and the second comes at the last. On the first day of Leo season, July 23, we had a full moon in Aquarius that felt like we were putting in our two weeks’ notice for damage control duty we had been on since the winter. Then two weeks later, the new moon in Leo opened our eyes to what the next chapter could look like if we are committed to our hearts while also inspiring some thoughts about what had transpired over the first half of the year. The past and present folded together, in that mysterious way which time is wont to do, showing us that there are always tricks up the universal sleeve.

An interesting and very relevant piece of information regarding these twin Aqua-moons is that the first was flanked by the malefics (Saturn and Mars), and the second is being supported by the benefics (Jupiter and Venus). For a refresher on themes and dynamics present at the time, take a peek at the first Aquarius Full Moon post. This one poses a fair bit of contrast to the last. Since August 17, the Sun has been opposite Jupiter retrograde, who re-entered the sign of Aquarius not too long ago. It’s offered us a recap of what beliefs we’ve been believing since the winter solstice and all of the holes in the subsequent lines we’ve been reasoning. With our mistress Moon sidled right up against the maker of meanings, the guru, the god with the golden touch, this adds a deeper level of reflection. One related to that which is constantly in flux. Here we may see:

  • Appreciation and acceptance of the present moment and the fact that all things which come to be must pass away
  • Profound understanding and admiration for the beautiful impermanence of what exists in the material realm
  • Holding space for changes of heart, mind, and spirit
  • The fallibility of heroic figures
  • Reflection upon youthful times, feeling matured, wisened
  • Quiet meditation regarding the state of humanity, friendships, close relationships
  • Workshopping family dynamics which have come up for review

In addition to Jupiter retrograde’s thoughtful ruminations, the Moon is receiving a trine from Venus in Libra. For a full treatment of Venus in her Libran temple, check out my Venus in Libra post. This is where the goddess of love, beauty, and all things harmonious is most comfortable (other than her yin domicile of Taurus), and is most equipped to do the things that are in her nature. She is able to bestow the most gifts and graces from this place. As she casts her loving gaze upon the poised, transcendent 29 degree Moon, she offers these things:

  • Especially tender feelings for (or romanticizing the idea of) babies, children, family
  • Nurturance and soothing for the parts of ourselves or others that feel isolated or alienated by social circumstances
  • Mindful, rational support from female friends, sisters
  • A sudden sweet tooth, the desire to bake
  • Wanting to care for, nourish, spoil loved ones or those going through hard times
  • Important things regarding sisters in general, blood or chosen

This full moon brings us to a new part of our journey. All of what we have learned so far– all of the mistakes, the madness, the heartache, the suffering, all of the people we’ve met, all of the people we’ve been, everything we’re proud of, and all of the things that we know we know nothing about– is moving through the prismatic lens of spirit and being focused so that we can see ourselves as whole beings. We are not just these disjointed collections of experiences. Yes, we are all of these things, but we are also something so much greater. This is a process of culmination and refinement. We are learning to appreciate, understand, and respect all parts of ourselves so that we can move onward and upward. We’ve been feeling the energetic shift for some time now and the new moon in Leo two weeks ago sort of swept whatever leftover bits were ready, aware or not, through the doorway.

Some very wise words that were spoken to me hit this spot so well: the energetic plane can be rearranged fairly quickly, but the material is sluggish. Matter is energy, but it is the absolute densest form of energy. With all of the outer planets retrograde, as they are and have been for months, the grander forces seem to be holding back. Once they start to turn around, we may see a sort of slingshot effect, a momentous force propelling the physical forward to meet the metaphysical. The focus right now is on the mental game. Get your mind right and matter will follow. Focus your intentions on something you are passionate about, that makes you happy, and helps others. Everything else will fall into place.

These are overarching themes. If you know what your rising sign is, you can easily figure out what houses the planets are moving through in your chart and what relevance that has. Here is some information on how to determine house placements and what they mean: House Placements and Meanings.
