Soundtrack: July 2021 Mid-Moon Playlist I
This past month, Venus and Mars ran through the Pluto-Saturn-Uranus fun house back to back. It was like if they unmasked the monster at the end of Scooby Doo, but it was actually us all along. We would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn’t been for our meddling higher selves, asking us to level up. Now that we’ve gotten the scary business of facing our resistance to truly valuing ourselves out of the way, we can regroup. The planets of love and war have been wrapt in a somewhat fiery, somewhat harmonious embrace for about a week now and will be for another. It seems that the depth gazing, earth shaking journey they’ve been on has inspired new strategies to getting what we want and keen evaluation of exactly what that is and why.
Just as Mercury was getting ready to move from its home sign of Gemini– which it had been traveling back and forth through since May 3 (but felt like a million years) –it started to form a trine with Jupiter. The magnifying, larger-than-life, excitable influence that Jupiter in Pisces cast onto the messenger god at the very end of its sojourn in Gemini may have ruffled a few feathers. Rational communications were certainly offline for a hot minute. The last degrees of any sign are ruled by the malefics (Saturn and Mars), which means that any planet that travels through them will be quite a bit worse for wear during that time… and with Jupiter inflating the whole thing. Woof. Now that Mercury has made it past the level boss of its own domicile, we are seeing the positive attributes of a trine (harmonious interaction) from a benefic (Jupiter or Venus). No fighting, no biting. Now we can put logic behind those Cancerian dreams we’ve been dreaming… the ones about true safety and comfort. The ones about home.
Mercury’s ingress (movement from one sign to another) into and subsequent two week stay in the sign of Cancer tells us a few things about what we may be experiencing:
- We are likely to be more interested in how we can support and nurture others with our words, business dealings, and exchanges of all kinds
- We may be more interested in spending money on or investing in our homes, kitchens, food, etc.
- Cancer rules the stomach, so we may need to consider how our thoughts and what occupies our minds affects our health, what anxieties we hold in our bellies
- We will likely be more sensitive to others’ words and they to ours, so we need to speak kindly and enforce boundaries with care and compassion when necessary
On the 12th, the Sun moved into a trine with Neptune in Pisces. This transit, which will last until the 19th, is showing us where we can align with our ideals. That Cancer-Pisces dreaminess I mentioned before is very much present in this transit and very much enticing us to begin. To begin what? To begin believing that the things that we want are possible. There will always be plenty of reasons to not do something, but I really feel that this is not about some big pie and the sky stuff. We’ve convinced ourselves that it’s going to be hard. Too hard. We are being invited to hold space for the possibility that it can be simple. If you really want something, you have to just start and see where it goes. You are allowed to change your mind, but how will you know one way or another unless you try? Sure. Weigh out your pros and cons, but don’t forget to give an appropriate measure to how much you want it. This is about putting down roots and creating stability. Maybe not necessarily in the material sense, but in some form. How do we grow roots? We have to, first, plant a seed. Then we have to water it and give it nutrients and make sure it doesn’t have too much competition. Nurture that desire and it will bare fruit.
Today, July 14, the Sun begins another engagement that will be active until the 20th. One that has the power to shake the dust and all of the self-limiting thoughts from our trajectories. The Sun is moving into an opposition with Pluto. This transit is happening across the Cancer-Capricorn axis, the gateways of life and death. Here we face the reality of our mortality. A few of the many ways this may present itself are:
- Deep feelings of powerlessness, futility, apathy, despair being illuminated
- Contemplation of death and regeneration
- Strong sexual/creative energy that must find an outlet/appreciation
- Spiritual purification, resurrecting oneself, climbing out of fear-state
- A renewed sense of direction, lust for life
The last celestial event of the week is a cute little sextile from Uranus in Taurus to Mercury in Cancer. July 18-21, the messenger god may be delivering a few surprises. This combination of energies is often playful and witty. Expect anomalies. Expect interesting and impractical ideas. Don’t be surprised when you find yourself feeling rather… inventive. This dynamic can bestow a desire for intellectual stimulation in ways that may seem quite curious. Let this Mercurial lift sharpen the details of your endeavors and inspire solutions that are completely out of the ordinary. How can we transform if we do not allow for the occasional mutation?
